Group text messaging with MagicMessage

We advise all customers using MagicMessage to switch to using TextMagic Messenger.

However, if you really need to, you can still download MagicMessage from here.

With MagicMessage for Windows you can set up a group of mobile numbers and text them at once with same message.

Overview

  1. You first create a group then add mobile numbers to the group
  2. You then send a message to the group
  3. Group members pay nothing to receive your messages

Creating a group

You can follow this Tutorial once you've downloaded the software, but please buy some messages to actually send your message in the last step.

In this example, we will add a group with all the members of a fictional sales team, so they can told of breaking news back at head office. Start the program, then click Phone Book:

Adding mobile numbers to the group

Now we'll add some members to this group. Click New Contact. You can then enter the contact's name and mobile phone number in the New Contact window.

You can use the New Contact feature to add additional contacts to the current group. Alternatively, you can add existing contacts to this group:

  1. First select one or more contacts who will join the group, holding down the Ctrl or Shift keys to select multiple contacts with your mouse.
  2. Then from the Contacts menu, select Add to Group, then Existing Group.
  3. Finally select "Sales team" and OK, to add the contacts to the group you've just created.

The phone book also lists the group for which a contact is a member, in the third column. To add or remove a contact from many groups, simply select the contact and click Properties on the tool bar, or right-click on the contact. The contact's properties window is displayed, which allows you to change the contact's group membership.

Sending to a group

Once you've created your group, close the Phone Book. In the main window, enter the group's name, or select it from the drop-down list:

Then enter your message, which can be 160 characters or more, then click Send, to send it to the group.

Notes

Cost: The cost of sending to a group is one text message per member, assuming your message contains fewer than 160 letters. For example, sending a short message to a group of 50 mobile numbers will cost 50 text messages from your message account.

Long messages: You easily can send messages longer than 160 letters to a group. The cost depends on the length of message. For example, to send a 200-letter text message to a group of 50 people would require 100 text messages from your account. Each person would receive two texts, containing the first and second part of your message. Don't worry if this sounds complicated, as the program displays the cost as you enter your message.
