Help Importing Numbers

We advise all customers using MagicMessage to switch to using TextMagic Messenger.

However, if you really need to, you can still download MagicMessage from here.

Importing mobile numbers

With MagicMessage you can import mobile phone numbers from a spreadsheet. These mobile numbers are added to a group, allowing you to send a text message to all the mobile numbers at once.

Preparing the data

This tutorial assumes you are using Microsoft Excel to prepare the names and mobile phone numbers you wish to import.

Preparing the names and mobile numbers in Microsoft Excel

Name — this is optional. MagicMessage treats the first field that does not look like a mobile number as the contact's name.

Mobile number — this must be in international format "+447312982893", or local format for UK numbers "07312982893". In Excel, to enter mobile numbers, use Format Cells as Text, or enter mobile numbers starting with an apostrophe: '07312982893

Column headers — these are optional, and the two columns can be in either order.

Saving the CSV file in Excel

Before you can import the data into MagicMessage, you must save the data as a CSV file. In Excel, select Save As from the File menu, then from the "Save as type" box select "CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv)". Enter a filename, and save it to your My Documents folder or similar, so you import it in the next step.

Click Browse, and choose the CSV file you saved in the previous step. When you click OK, the contacts are imported into a group called "Imported", which is selected for you to rename if you wish. You can now send a message to this group by closing the phonebook, and selecting the group from the list in the main window.
