Which texts need opt-in?
A two-minute consent guide

Every template above carries one of five consent labels. Here is what each one means before you press send.

Promotional texts need opt-in almost everywhere: prior express written consent in the US (TCPA), opt-in under GDPR/PECR in the UK & EU (soft opt-in only for your own similar products), express or implied consent under CASL in Canada, and consent under Australia’s Spam Act.

Identify your business, include an opt-out like “Reply STOP”, and respect quiet hours. Collect consent with unchecked checkboxes, and keep a record of when, how, and where each person opted in.

Order confirmations, delivery updates, verification codes and other messages the recipient triggered. No written marketing opt-in is required: in the US, the customer sharing their number for this purpose counts as prior express consent, and in the UK & EU service messages fall outside PECR marketing rules.

Keep them promo-free, identify yourself, and honor STOP.

Appointment, payment and renewal reminders to people who gave you their number for that purpose, the same prior-express-consent standard as transactional messages in the US. They are not marketing, and adding a discount or upsell line changes that.

Consent for these can be collected in writing or verbally; marketing always requires written consent.

Genuine emergency and safety messages such as closures, hazards, and urgent recalls are broadly exempt from consent rules. Never mix offers into them.

Work-related texts to your own team. Collect employee consent, honor opt-outs, and check local workplace rules.

HOW IT WORKS

How to use these templates

  • Copy and customize

    Copy and customize

Click Copy on any template and replace the [bracketed placeholders] with your details. In Textmagic they map straight to dynamic fields, so an entire contact list is personalized automatically.

  • Watch the counter

    Watch the counter

One SMS part is 160 GSM characters; longer messages split into 153-character parts and bill per part. A single emoji or curly quote drops the limit to 70. Every template shows its live count and cost.

  • Check the consent label

Green means the customer triggered the message, so no marketing opt-in is needed. Amber means marketing rules apply: opt-in list, business name, opt-out, quiet hours. When in doubt, the consent guide above covers all five levels.
